You're looking for an elementary school for your child in 2019 or beyond. What are the important differences among public and private elementary schools in San Francisco? What are the advantages and disadvantages of different models like immersion, Montessori, or inquiry-based? What kind of school might be best for your child and family?

Join Bill Jackson, founder of https://raisereadykids.com/ . A bit about Bill:

I’m a parent, educator, and entrepreneur. I’m best known for founding GreatSchools, the leading guide to U.S. K–12 schools. Now I’m on a quest to help parents raise children who are set up for success in life.

What kind of world will our children grow up into? Will they be able to get good jobs? Will they have good lives?

As parents, we all have these questions. And while we can’t control the future, we can give our children a strong foundation. We can help them acquire the character, knowledge, skills, and sense of purpose they will need to thrive.

Introducing The Sibling with Rebecca Walsh

Parent/caregiver workshop for families expecting a new baby

Just when you've gotten used to a little more sleep, a bit of a routine and settled into your groove as a young family...here comes a new sibling! While welcoming a new baby to your family is exciting, it also raises some important questions and concerns:

  •  How will our new addition impact the dynamic of our family?
  • How will my firstborn handle this life-changing event?
  • Will I really be able to love this new baby as much as I love my older child?
  • How will I put both kids to sleep, make dinner, let alone eat if my partner has to work late?
  • I finally figured out how to work in some time for myself and my partner...how will I be able to do this with a new baby?

Join Rebecca Walsh, Director of Early Childhood Matters and mother of three, to learn strategies for supporting your child in the transition to a new baby, and laying the foundation for a lifetime of positive sibling relationships. We will also discuss self-care strategies to support parents in this transition to a bigger family, and screen-free activity ideas to keep older siblings engaged while you nurse, swaddle or maybe even take a shower!

RSVP here.

Did you and your family recently welcome your second child? Are you looking for an opportunity to connect with other second time parents while bonding with your new little one?

Second Time Mom groups are a wonderful way to connect with other parents of two and have protected weekly time for self-care and bonding with your newborn. This group is a supportive environment for parents to connect and share openly about the challenges and rewards of transitioning to a bigger family.

Facilitated by Rebecca Walsh, founder/director of Early Childhood Matters and mother of three, each session includes weekly readings and related discussions on a range of topics, including:

  • Self-care for second-time parents
  • Bonding with your new baby as a seasoned parent
  • Supporting your older child in the transition to becoming a big brother/sister
  • Setting the stage for positive sibling dynamics between your children
  • Marriage/Partnerships after babies

About Rebecca:

Joyfully presented by Leyla Momeny

(a RIE Associate, mother of two, and longtime educator)

Developed by Magda Gerber in the 1970s, and inspired by the groundbreaking work of a Hungarian pediatrician named Emmi Pikler, RIE (also formally know as Educaring) is a profoundly humane approach to infant and toddler development. Often misunderstood and inaccurately described, it is a complex and interconnected approach rooted in the principles of trust and respect.

Join us for this engaging, adults-only event focused on RIE principles in both theory and action. You will learn how to enable your young child’s authenticity, creativity, and resilience to flourish while preserving  parental self-care and avoiding martyrdom.
